The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Etsako Central Local Government Area has elected new Executive Committee to pilot the activities of the Association for the next five years.
Four blocs out of the five blocs of the Christian Body namely (CCN), (OAIC), (CPFN/PFN) and (ECWA/TEKAN) participated in the keenly contested election.
At the end of the exercise, Venerable Godgive Okereke, of St. Stephen’s Anglican Church, Fugar, representing CCN Bloc emerged as the Local Government Co-ordinator and Professor Evang. Jerome Ileile, of Christ Army Church, Fugar, representing OAIC emerged as the Assistant Co-ordinator, while Pastor Emmanuel Namba, of the ECWA Church, Ekperi, representing ECWA/TEKAN Bloc emerged as the Assistant Secretary.
In his Speech, the Edo State CAN Election Committee Chairman, Reverend A.S. Ogakwu, thanked the participating blocs for conducting themselves peacefully during the election and for the successful excercise.
Rev. Ogakwu, sued for cooperation and unity in the Body of Christ as demonstrated in the Bible, stressing that the importance of unity amongst Christians cannot be overemphasized.
In his acceptance speech, the new CAN Co-ordinator, Venerable Godgive Okereke, thanked members of the Association for the honour bestowed upon him and promised to run all- inclusive administration.
The election of Venerable Okereke which took place on 7th May, 2024, coincided with his 19th Wedding Anniversary.
Highlight was offering of prayers for the new CAN Chairman and members of his Executive to succeed in his new assignment.
