The House of Reps.-Elect representing Etsako Federal Constituency, Amb. Dekeri Anamero DANCO has mourned the family of first Female Senator in Nigeria, Franca Afegbua over her death.

In a statement personally signed by him, Anamero said that the death of Franca Afegbua was a colossal loss to the entire people of Edo state in particular and Nigeria in general given her tremendous contributions to political activism in the nation’s politics during her active days.

“I am so saddened over the news of the passing on of our beloved daughter, sister, mother and iconic foremost female Senator in the second republic who represented the then Bendel north senatorial district under the defunct Bendel State. She was a trailblazer per excellence, an iconic figure whose
representation in the Senate paved the way for female Senators in the Red Chamber till present times.

DANCO also calls for immortalization of Senator Franca Afegbua in honor of her immense exploits in politics.

“In this instance, I urge the government of Edo state led by Governor Obaseki and the Federal Government of Nigeria to set necessary machineries in motion to immortalizing this amazing woman as Nigeria’s foremost democratically elected female Senator whose life and times profoundly inspired many brave females to take active part in politics.

“Our distinguished Senator leaved a fulfilled life as an amazing woman who paved the way for successive women folks to have their voices heard in the upper chamber up till this current 9th National Assembly.

Using Alhaji Abdukadiri Oyolor as point of contact to the royal Afegbua family, the member-elect also condoled with the deceased family.

“While joining the good people of Edo state and Nigeria to mourn our deceased sister, l hereby particularly console the royal family of Afegbua in Okpella Edo state not to see her death as a loss but rather take pride as the progenitor of the deceased who made indelible history for parenting the first female Senator in Nigeria.

Senator Franca Afegbua passed on at the age of 79 years. She died at a time when her expertise to navigate Nigeria out of its present challenges was mostly needed. May her gentle soul rest in perfect peace, Amen.
